RE: The tariff classification of an Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer from China
Dear Ms. Aldinger:
In your letter dated January 17, 1996 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The item in question is an Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer made of plastic, designated item #961334. The thermometer has two rubber suction cups for mounting onto any window. The frame is 8 inches long by 3.5 inches wide. It is decorated with pictures of butterflies and flowers. The thermometer itself is secured inside the plastic frame.
The applicable subheading for the thermometer will be 9025.11.4000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for thermometers and pyrometers, not combined with other instruments; liquid-filled, for direct reading, other than clinical. The rate of duty will be 5.0 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
