RE: The tariff classification of hair dressing appliances from Hong Kong
Dear Ms. McCabe:
In your letter dated April 22, 1993, on behalf of Epilady International,
Inc., you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The merchandise consists of two items: a battery-operated body brush and
a battery-operated hair detangler. The Epilady Body Brush is a waterproof
electric brush that comes with four interchangeable attachments, a sponge, a
buffer, and two bristle brushes. The Massager Detangler is an electric
device that operates both as a hair brush and as a reciprocating massager.
The applicable subheading for the items will be 8509.80.0095, Harmonized
Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for
electromechanical domestic appliances, with self-contained electric motor,
other appliances, other. The rate of duty will be 4.2 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Section 177 of the
Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of this ruling letter should be attached to the entry documents
filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If the documents have been
filed without a copy, this ruling should be brought to the attention of the
Customs officer handling the transaction.
