RE: The tariff classification of a Multimeter – Model 34401A from an Unknown Country
Dear Mr. Roll:
In your letter dated May 4, 2007 for Alcatel Submarine Networks, you requested a tariff classification ruling. No sample was provided.
You state that the, “Multimeter Model 34401A has an internal memory that can hold up to 512 readings.”
The applicable subheading for the 34401A will be 9030.32.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for Other instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking voltage, current, resistance or power – multimeters, with a recording device. The general rate of duty will be 1.7 percent ad valorem.

This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
