RE: The tariff classification of a stainless steel manifold for piping connections from China
Dear Ms. Benway:
In your letter dated August 14, 2009 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The product you plan to import is called a chilled beam manifold. A sample and pictures were submitted and are being retained by this office. The manifold is made of stainless steel and is manufactured by casting. It measures 8.5 inches in length, 6 inches in width and 3.75 inches in depth. The manifold is a multi branch fitting and has four main openings. It contains no flow regulating, pressure regulating or other control features. The manifold functions as a fitting to connect pipes and pumps in heating and cooling systems. The manifold connection with the pipes and pumps is made by bolts.
The applicable subheading for the manifold will be 7307.19.9040, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for tube or pipe fittings of iron or steel: cast fittings: other, other, other, grooved end fittings (including grooved couplings). The rate of duty will be 6.2 per cent ad valorem.
Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Mary Ellen Laker at (646) 733-3020.
Sincerely,
