RE: The tariff classification of AM/FM glass antenna amplifiers from an unspecified country
Dear Mr. Hundley:
In your letter dated May 18, 2010 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The merchandise subject to this ruling is two types of AM/FM glass antenna amplifiers. They are identified within your letter as Type 1 and Type 2.
The Type 1 AM/FM glass antenna amplifier consists of an Amp body, which consists of a chassis, cover, and a PCB board, a pigtail connecting the amplifier to the glass antenna, and a bracket to attach to a vehicle’s “C” pillar. The Type 2 AM/FM glass antenna amplifier consists of an Amp body, which consists of a chassis, cover, and a PCB board, a cable to attach the amplifier to the glass antenna, and a cable to attach the amplifier to the radio receiver. Although each of the amplifiers is structurally different, they have exactly the same function.
These AM/Fm glass antenna amplifiers are installed in the quarter glass (back side glass) or in the rear window of an automobile. The function of each of the AM/FM glass antenna amplifiers is to amplify the AM and FM radio signals received by the glass antenna and to prevent noise and other interference from occurring.
The applicable subheading for the AM/FM glass antenna amplifiers (Type 1 and Type 2) will be 8518.40.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Audio frequency electric amplifiers: Other.” The rate of duty will be 4.9 percent ad valorem.
Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Linda M. Hackett at (646) 733-3015.
Sincerely,
