RE: The tariff classification of Tiletamine Hydrochloride (CAS-14176-49-9) from Germany.
Dear Mr. Tartaro:
In your letter dated July 28, 2011, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The subject merchandise tiletamine hydrochloride is described as solid, white and nearly odorless. It is an anesthetic and anticonvulsant and is component of telazol which is a veterinary anesthetic.
The applicable subheading for the Tiletamine Hydrochloride will be 2934.99.4700, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Nucleic acids and their salts, whether or not chemically defined; other heterocyclic compounds: Other: Other: Aromatic or modified aromatic: Other: Drugs.” Pursuant to General Note 13, HTS, the rate of duty will be free.

This merchandise is currently a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Schedule III Non-Narcotic Controlled Substance and may be subject to the requirements of the Controlled Substances Act and/or the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act, which are administered by the DEA.
