RE: The tariff classification of a forged alloy steel bar from China.
Dear Mr. Keller:
In your letter dated April 23, 2013 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The product under consideration is described as a forged steel bar, part number 558627. This bar is made of alloy steel and measures approximately 16 inches in length and 1.25 inches in diameter. It will ultimately be used as a rod within a hydraulic cylinder for use in lifting, handling, loading or unloading machinery.
The applicable subheading for the forged alloy steel bar will be 7228.40.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for other bars and rods of other alloy steel, other bars and rods, not further worked than forged. The rate of duty is free.
Duty rates are provided for your convenience and are subject to change. The text of the most recent HTSUS and the accompanying duty rates are provided on World Wide Web at http://www.usitc.gov/tata/hts/.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Mary Ellen Laker at (646) 733-3020.
