RE: The tariff classification of Vasopressin (CAS 11000-17-2), imported in bulk powder form, from Spain
Dear Ms. Forstenzer:
In your letter dated November 4, 2014 you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The subject product, Vasopressin, is a polypeptide which raises blood pressure and causes an increase in water retention by the kidneys. This anti-diuretic hormone is indicated for the treatment of vasodilatory septic shock.
The applicable subheading for the Vasopressin in bulk form will be 2937.19.0000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Hormones, prostaglandins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes, natural or reproduced by synthesis; derivatives and structural analogues thereof, including chain modified polypeptides, used primarily as hormones: Polypeptide hormones, protein hormones and glycoprotein hormones, their derivatives and structural analogues: Other.” The rate of duty will be free.
