RE: The tariff classification of Carisoprodol tablets in dosage form, from India
Dear Ms. Scott:
In your letter dated March 6, 2017, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
Carisoprodol tablets, imported in 350 mg, is a medicinal preparation containing carisoprodol, a skeletal muscle relaxant, as the active ingredient. It is indicated for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions and muscle spasms in adults.
The applicable subheading for Carisoprodol tablets in dosage form will be 3004.90.9240, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), which provides for “Medicaments … consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses … or in forms or packings for retail sale: Other: Other: Other: Medicaments primarily affecting the central nervous system: Other.” The rate of duty will be free.
