RE: The tariff classification of acrylic bathroom articles.
Dear Ms. Quinn:
In your letter dated August 26, 1998, on behalf of Baldwin
Hardware, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
Three samples were provided with your letter: a soap dish, a
cup and toothbrush holder and a shelf. All are composed of
acrylic plastic, and are designed to be permanently affixed to a
wall. The shelf is approximately 24 inches in length by 3 3/4
inches in width, and is suitable for storing toilet articles.
You did not mention the country of origin in your letter. The
rate of duty provided below is the Column I rate that applies to
countries with which the United States has Normal Trade
Relations.
The applicable subheading for the soap dish, cup and
toothbrush holder and the shelf will be 3925.90.0000, Harmonized
Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for
builders' ware of plastics, not elsewhere specified or included,
other. The rate of duty will be 5.3 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177
of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
A copy of the ruling or the control number indicated above
should be provided with the entry documents filed at the time
this merchandise is imported. If you have any questions
regarding the ruling, contact National Import Specialist Joan
Mazzola at 212-466-5580.
