RE: The tariff classification of skinning axes from China.
Dear Mr. Courson:
In your letter dated January 31, 2000, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
You stated that the products are skinning axes. There are two sizes. The 12.25” size is called a “Skin & Quarter Axe.” The 9.25” size is called a “Pocket Axe.” Each axe blade is made of stainless steel, hardened and tempered. The handles will be made from fiberglass reinforced high impact polystyrene. The handles are insert-molded onto the blades. In use, the axes are intended for hunters to perform the skinning and quartering of big game.
The applicable subheading for both axes will be 8201.40.6000, Harmonized
Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for axes, bill hooks and similar hewing tools, and parts thereof...other. The duty rate will be 6.2% ad valorem.
This merchandise may be subject to antidumping duties.
