Dear Ms. Todd:
In your letter dated June 20, 2000, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
The Pearl Lab MS-Transformer MSV 15 is a transformer which, when recording in stereo, makes it possible to receive the monitoring sound in mono or stereo. The Pearl Lab BA 48 Battery Power Supply is for 48 volt phantom powering of mono and stereo microphones. The Pearl Lab Condenser Mic CC 30 is a microphone designed for studio and live applications. The Pearl Lab Condenser TL6 and TL66 are microphones for musicians and studio use. The Pearl Lab Stereo Condenser Mic TLC 90 is a microphone specially made for live performance.
The applicable subheading for the Pearl Lab MS-Transformer MSV 15 will be 8504.31.2000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for “Other transformers: Having a power handling capacity not exceeding 1 kVA: Unrated.” The rate of duty will be free.
The applicable subheading for the Pearl Lab BA 48 Battery Power Supply will be 8504.40.9580, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for “Static converters: Other: Other.” The rate of duty will be 1.5 percent ad valorem.
The applicable subheading for the Pearl Lab Condenser Mic CC 30, Pearl Lab Condenser Mic TL6 and TL66, and Pearl Lab Stereo Condenser Mic TLC 90 will be 8518.10.8030, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for “Microphones and stands therefor: Other: Microphones.” The rate of duty will be 4.9 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
